Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip
Budget smartphones are offering more and more value for money. If you are looking for an inexpensive device, there is good news as a new generation of affordable smartphones is about to enter the market. And these promise quite a few cool improvements. The devices will work with the new Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chip, recently unveiled by chip manufacturer Qualcomm. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 not only offers longer battery life, but also faster speeds and faster 5G connections compared to its predecessor. The computational speed even increases by 10%. In addition, the new chip supports an improved fast-charging technology called "Quick Charge 4+" that can charge a smartphone to 50% in just 15 minutes. Moreover, the chip supports FHD+ displays with a refresh rate of 120 fps. Quite a few improvements, in other words.
Artificial Intelligence improvements
And that's not all, the image processor also gets an upgrade! This allows for faster autofocus. Moreover, the chip uses AI (artificial intelligence) to improve low-light camera performance and reduce noise. The improved modem provides higher speeds and faster response times on 5G connections. It also supports simultaneous recording of multiple cameras with advanced features. The improvements in the camera area is called "Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP".
New Xiaomi device on the way
In the near future, the first devices with this new Qualcomm chip will start appearing, including in devices from Xiaomi and Vivo. If Chinese media are to be believed, the Redmi Note 12R will be the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2. Currently, it is not yet clear when this device will be released in the Netherlands, the previous model was recently launched in the Netherlands. We are very curious about this new chip and curious to see in which (budget) smartphones the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 will end up. In any case, the improvements are very good and promise a lot for the future of budget smartphones!
