Siri makes it easy to switch between different chat services in iOS 17

It will now be easier to send messages via Siri with apps other than iMessage in iOS 17. Apple assistant Siri will now ask you which app you want to use for this. Read more about this new feature in iOS 17 here!

It has long been possible to send messages via Siri. This is useful, for example, when you are on the road in the car. But Siri uses Apple's own Messages app by default. If you want to use WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal, for example, you have to explicitly indicate this when you first command Siri. So takes a bit of extra time. That will change in iOS 17, as evidenced by the second beta version of the operating system, as reported by 9to5Mac. In the latest version, users will be able to customise the chat service even after dictating a message.

Possible response to criticism
In this way, iOS 17 becomes more flexible again in terms of different services. It has long been possible to choose different video calling services from within contacts, for example. These options are useful for users and developers of other apps, and for Apple it may be a way to reduce allegations of abuse of power. Apple is already under investigation in the US for favouring its own services within its own systems. If iOS users will soon be able to switch between services more easily, accusations of favouritism are likely to weigh less heavily.

Other new features in iOS 17
Incidentally, the new iOS 17 includes all sorts of different small improvements compared to its predecessor. For example, it will be possible to have services like Spotify stream music to HomePods via AirPlay with a single command. iOS 17 is expected to be available to everyone in September, probably shortly after the announcement of the iPhone 15. In any case, we are very much looking forward to this new functionality and also to the iPhone 15 of course!
